Primary Care Physio Wins Prestigious LaingBuisson Award

Primary Care Physio won the ‘Best in Primary Care and Diagnostics’ award at the LaingBuisson Awards in November.

The LaingBuisson Awards are held every year to honor healthcare organisations that establish new benchmarks of excellence in their respective industries. Now in their 19th year of recognising outstanding achievements, these awards are assessed independently and objectively.

The judges commented: “Impressive speed of roll-out for this new (& clearly well-needed) service, the company is to be commended on combining an innovative approach to recruiting with technology to facilitate access.”

Primary Care Physio is the leading provider of high-quality fully-managed First Contact Practitioner (FCP) services to NHS Primary Care Networks (PCNs) – reducing GP workload by consulting 20-30% of patients who contact their GP surgery with a musculoskeletal (MSK) complaint.

One of the challenges facing PCNs is recruiting and mobilising additional roles; such as First Contact Practitioners. Primary Care Physio has developed a robust process for a ‘whole of market recruitment approach’ enabling us to fulfil and locally deploy 90%+ of our FCP commissioned roles within 12 weeks - including becoming an AA-rated sponsor to recruit internationally.

At a time when demand for experienced MSK physiotherapists has increased significantly with a supply shortage, Primary Care Physio has grown from employing 69 whole-time equivalents (WTE) FCPs in June 2021 to 315 WTE FCPs in June 2023.

This has been central to deliver on Primary Care Physio’s clear ambition to become the leading provider of NHS primary care-based musculoskeletal services, now supporting 170+ PCNs & 1000+ GP practices; serving c 9 million patients (around 1 in 7 patients in England).

The ceremony was held on Thursday 16th November at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in London. Attending on behalf of Primary Care Physio and delighted to take home the award was Chief Financial Officer Dean Barber (left) and Chief Executive Officer Ryan Allen (right).

CEO of Primary Care Physio, Ryan Allen, commented: “We are thrilled to have been named as the winners of the ‘Best in Primary Care and Diagnostics’ award by LaingBuisson. This award is dedicated to the hard work and commitment of everybody at Primary Care Physio; from our talented First Contact Physiotherapists, to our HEE Roadmap Supervisors, and to all of our central support team who help provide the very best service to our PCN commissioners and customers. Thank you to LaingBuisson and the judges for recognising the achievements of the Primary Care Physio team, and congratulations to all the other winners and finalists.”
